What to wear for your upcoming family photoshoot. Outfit guide inspiration and links.

Updated: Apr 20

In my previous blog post, we went over links and ideas of what women should wear for portrait / family photography sessions. Due to many of your requests, this blog will also cover not only what women should wear for a photo-shoot, but also men, children, and babies. All of the links below have been found on Amazon to keep things simpler and to help avoid paying shipping fees (if you have Amazon Prime). As you scroll through this article, you will notice that most of the clothing that I recommend are lighter colored. The reasoning behind this is to give attention to the beautiful background of your session and to draw attention to your faces. With that being said, here is what I would recommend for outfits for babies/children.

Above are the links and ideas for a little girl’s outfit. Sizes range from newborn, to a young girl. Most of the links have a large size range for whatever age your little one is.

Next up with the little boys, we have a variety of textures and styles for different ages. In my opinion, there is nothing cuter than a little man in a pair of overalls or a plaid flannel shirt!

How can we not cover the shoes?! Honestly a baby barefoot is adorable, but buying a cute pair of baby / toddler shoes has become my latest shopping weakness. Since my own daughter has started to walk, we’ve had shoes all over our house! Here are just some that I found that would look adorable on your little one!

As a Mother myself, I definitely understand that sometimes we tend to forget about what we should wear ourselves! I always recommend choosing Mom’s outfit first, due to the fact that I find that one to be the most challenging. Once you choose your outfit, then work off of that to choose your children’s and spouses outfit.

Last but not least, we have the men’s outfits. I usually find that men’s outfits come second to the hardest outfit to choose. My husband Jason helped me with a couple of these ideas. I am currently planning on purchasing some of these myself for him for our upcoming family photos!

As always, here is some tips that I find helpful to remember when it comes to your session.

Tips:

  • I always highly recommend getting your hair professionally done for any photo shoot. I personally highlight my hair, so I will purposely book with my hairstylist a day or two before my session to get that perfect blowout look! May as well use it to your advantage! Feeling good for your photos makes all the difference.

  • Bring a hairbrush. Even the healthiest of hair will still get tangled after running around in a field for an hour or so. Give your hair a few strokes, and your hair will be shining again!

  • Let me know ahead of time if there is anything you'd like photoshopped out. We've all woken up with a pimple before, and don't worry, it's literally the easiest thing to edit out!

  • Always plan to arrive to your session 20 minutes early. ESPECIALLY for a golden hour session. Being late to your session means less shooting time and possibly losing the best lighting possible!

Of course, you can ALWAYS reach out to me with any questions! I LOVE it when clients send me their outfit ideas! Last but not least, wear whatever makes you feel your best. It’s YOUR photos. These are simply some recommendations. I am so looking forward to our session together! Whether we've met before, or this is the first time, I'm so excited to capture YOU!

                                    Much love,

                                           Bri ;)
